Building a new socially responsible water brand.

Clearer is a social enterprise designed to create a great working environment for people with physical and mental disabilities. Its profits are invested in clean water projects overseas.

Together we defined a brand, a name, and a custom online system based on transparency. Using a code printed on each bottle, customers can trace who bottled their water, its pH, the weather at the time, and how the company is spending its money.

A big fancy international stock management system.

Rory’s Story Cubes is a brilliant dice-based story game that’s achieved international success. So far, the team have sold over 3 million sets in 52 countries, right from their studio in Belfast.

As their product ranges grew, they needed a system that could track everything, from international manufacturing partners through to retail. We built a system tailored to their needs, fully integrated with their e-commerce platform, so that we can track every last component from manufacture to Freight on Board, to the hands of the consumer.

Reducing the hidden harm of alcoholism on families.

Comic Relief asked us to help them develop a Service Design Health Check app and online toolkit for organisations who work to reduce the harm of alcoholism on families.

Working alongside educational professionals, writers and the Comic Relief education team, we designed an developed a custom CMS-driven site and app to meet the needs of a very specific set of users.

User Interface Design for a brilliant Kids’ Maths App.

We worked alongside Komodo to define an illustration style and refine the User Interface design for their Kids’ Maths app. Komodo is sold directly to parents, as a way of giving their kids an edge in foundational Mathematics, so it’s important to earn parents’ and kids’ trust with a fun, easy to use system where they see results quickly.

The result? Sales are up significantly since the redesign. Yep. Komodo’s numbers are looking pretty good.

Game Design & Illustration for the BBC & Sesame Street.

We worked alongside partners at Front, BBC Learning and Sesame Workshop to illustrate, design and build an animated interface and six educational games for Sesame Tree — a Sesame Street spinoff series based in NI.

Sesame Tree was BBC Learning’s most successful website for 3 years running. The biggest win for us? We got to meet Big Bird.

Connecting Irish language communities

Meon Eile is an online Irish language publication dedicated to connecting and promoting Irish language communities in NI and beyond. As their readership was transitioning from desktop to mobile, they asked us to do a responsive redesign of their site, and also to improve their aging Content Management System.

The project focused on improving reading experience for users on all devices, and increasing total reading time on the site, as well as dramatically improving their publishing system to save their team time every day.

A Logistics Tracking App for equipment management experts.

EMS manage 100,000s of pieces of hired equipment for big FMCG clients like Red Bull and Johnston & Johnston. They needed a system that would track these movements.

We designed and built a system capable of tracking 1000s of equipment transactions per second, bringing an unprecedented level of accountability to their work, saving their staff time, and saving their clients money.

A new approach to online commenting

Channel 4 approached us to design and build 4thought — a video-based site dealing with difficult human issues and experiences that tend towards divisive online debate. Together we designed a commenting system based on a completely new paradigm — a mixture of emotional and logical responses.

Since then, we’ve worked Channel 4 on a number of projects, including a high-traffic online Competition Engine for Stephen Fry’s Greatest Gadgets, Jon Snow’s end-of-year roundup show, and building a high-performance site for one of their most popular TV shows.

Branding to earn the trust of the world’s biggest airlines and online retailers.

Bitnet were building the world’s most advanced cryptocurrency platform, and they wanted a brand that would convince airlines and major e-commerce sites to use their platform to accept Bitcoin.

Well, it worked. 6 months later, and 260 Airlines were running on Bitnet’s platform. 6 months after that, Rakuten — Japan’s biggest online retailer — were using it too. Bitnet were acquired by Rakuten in August 2016.

An integrated publishing system for three interconnected brands.

As globally acclaimed game designers and publishers, The Creativity Hub’s small team based is tasked with managing four separate blogs on top of their regular jobs. They asked for help.

We designed and developed C.H.I.P.S. (Creativity Hub Integrated Publishing System), which turns digital content publishing into a game, where players are rewarded for making progress on good articles. Once a piece is finished, the system C.H.I.P.S. allows their team to publish to multiple channels automatically.

Defining an ambitious food brand with a social mission.

The UK’s best sausage producer approached us, asking if we’d help create a super-ethical food brand. The Good Little Company was born. We designed their branding, illustration, packaging, corporate structure and messaging approach for the first 5 years.

The GLC has flown the nest now, but we’re incredibly proud of our work together. Together we helped build a successful FMCG brand supplying Waitrose (and now Sainsburys), as well as donating more than 20 Million meals to families in Malawi..

A chemical regulatory compliance web app.

Chemical Regulatory Compliance isn’t fun, but it’s pretty important. We helped H2 Compliance name, brand, design and build a web-based application to simplify and improve the process of managing chemicals for international manufacturers selling in the EU.

The project helped H2C grow sales dramatically. In 2015, HP licensed the app, spinning off a variant tailored to their needs, to run their regulatory compliance operations. In 2016, H2C were acquired by ERP, and Element1 remains a core part of their growth strategy.

Heatboss

A simple interface for a complex commercial heating system.

Heatboss helps bring precise automated heating controls for customers who manage heating in 10s or 100s of rooms at a time. Heatboss is a highly sophisticated system, with tightly integrated custom hardware and software.

We designed and built a user interface for mobile, tablet and desktop that makes it easy to use, and it seems to be working. Users love it, and it’s already helped Heatboss break into new markets.

A web-based publishing system for an investigative journalism team.

The Detail needed a custom web-based publishing system that would enable their collaborative editorial process and automate publishing in a number of formats. We worked with them to define, design and build a system focused on creating a great reading experience for the user, in the most efficient way possible for the team.

The Detail won Digital News Platform of the Year in the 2016 NIMA awards.

Rebranding and packaging design.

Just Live a Little make granola. They’re really good at it. What began with a little stall st St George’s Market in Belfast quickly grew into a brilliant little family food business.

Jill and David came to see us when they were ready to quit their day jobs. We designed a new brand, sub-brand and packaging system to help them sell into supermarkets in the UK and Ireland.

Since the rebrand, Just Live a Little have grown sales dramatically, securing listings with Ocado, Tesco, Waitrose and Little Waitrose, as well as distribution deals in Sweden, Dubai and China.

From Now On is the studio of Dee Halligan and Daniel Charny. Based in London and Copenhagen, they're creative cultural consultants at the forefront of the maker movement. From building international maker networks to redefining museums and visitor experiences, they've got some skills.

We worked with the FNO team to design and vuild a simple website, showcasing their projects, speaking engagements and capabilities for an audience with very specific needs.
